Moreton Island Trip ... January 2007Graham and Ann Thatcher’s annual Moreton Island trip was once again held over the Australia day weekend. It would be easy to say that it was held over such and such a time or between certain dates but as can be seen from the list of participants their arrival and departure dates were mixed. Someone new seemed to arrive nearly every day. It was certainly not boring! Obviously the longer one can spend on the Island the better it is. It certainly is paradise with great beaches, some surf, some fish, fabulous water and plenty of dolphins and other wild life. Some of this wildlife is as mentioned further on in this report not welcome. John and Gail Bowley and the girls – arrived Sat 20 departed Mon 29 Russell and Jenny Kennedy – arrived Sun 21 departed Mon 29 Mike and Janine Farrell and the girls – arrived Sun 21 departed Wed 31 (a relaxed stayer) Ken Winders and Di – Ken arrived Mon 22 departed Wed 31 (another relaxed stayer) – Di arrived Thur 25 departed Sun 28 Kim and Anna Rusis – arrived Mon 22 departed Mon 29 Adrian and Marilyn McDonnell – arrived Wed24 departed Sun 28 Phil and Lyndel Curcuruto – arrived Thur 25 departed Sun 28 Bernie and Judy Cox– arrived Thur 25 departed Sun 28 Ken and Karen Capps– arrived Thur 25 departed Sun 28 Brian and Fay McKenzie– arrived Thur 25 departed Sun 28 Richard Murphy– arrived Thur 25 departed Sun 28 Rod and Emma Willett and the girls– arrived Thur 25 departed Mon 29 Graham and Anne Thatcher (Trip Leaders) – arrived Frid 26 departed Sun 28 Lloyd and Susanne Ackeroyd– arrived Frid 26 departed Sun 28 Time was spent swimming at the North of the Island taking in lunch, snorkelling and the odd game of cricket. Bernie and Judy test drove their new toy – A Beach Wheeled Kite – Judy is still on her P Plates after doing a U Turn in front of Adrian and Bernie is in the dog house after breaking the mast. We did the trip to the South for a swim and a visit to the hotel – unfortunately no prawns or oysters were available and then over to the East Coast and up the beach to the Blue Lagoon for a swim. Some of us experienced interaction with the dolphins on the Western Beach north and south of our campsite. This was very exciting for the children and the adults who thought they were children. We were all entertained at Happy Hour on Australia Day by the campers in fancy dress. Sonya Kruger (Dancing with the Stars) arrived with the dancing girls from the Willett family and picked up a Wiggle named Rod along the way. This was followed by a communal dinner which carried on into night and finished with a poker game. Phil C thought this was strip poker until he was told to stop taking his clothes off – any excuse Phil! Kim showed her skills in driving an unfamiliar car and towing the Kimberley in sand for the first time – no problems, unlike another member of the family who in the previous year was bogged twice. Graham’s son Dan who was camping with his mates experienced the local wildlife when bitten by a spider resulting in the Ambulance being called. Fortunately he was able to continue the weekend with his friends. It was a lovely feeling for the long stay visitors to watch others come, set up, enjoy a brief stay then pack and depart. Thanks to Graham and Ann for sorting out the departure times and for forfeiting an evening due to an error by Ferry Company - much appreciated. Once again another enjoyable time on Moreton Island and thanks to all members on the trip. Our thanks to Graham and Ann for leading the trip. Ken and Di
