2007 CORROBOREE AT FINCH HATTON
4 - 7 May
Participants:
Gary and Gwen
Davis Steve and Vicki Fleming
Errol and Jenny Gordon Geoff and Christine Moller
As we were not allowed into the showgrounds until 1pm. on Friday,
the Davis’s, Flemings and Gordons met the Mollers who had done the pre
corroboree trip, at the Pinnacle Hotel for lunch. After our homemade PIE lunch,
we travelled the last few kilometres into Finch Hatton. The Mackay Land Rover
Club had us registered and onto our allotted site in no time. This set the
course for the week end.
After happy hour, the trip lists were put out for the following
day’s trips. There were various trips at different times to suit most people.
After the boys, Gwen and Christine went on the Saturday trip,
Vicki and I walked out of the showground and visited the coffee shop for morning
tea. Lunch was had at the local store/café then we waited for all the trips to
return, as the meeting was to be held at 3pm.
Gwen, Vicki and I took our chairs to the meeting site but no one
told me that I would have to talk about our Club and its activities. After this
was done by all clubs, the meeting got under way. There were no major issues to
discuss, so it was a very short meeting. Dinner that night was a fundraising
BBQ/sausage sizzle by a local school which was followed by the entertainment for
the evening with many draws of prizes. The Mollers won a $500 voucher for
shockies and the Davis’ and us also won prizes.
Early Sunday all four cars joined another trip which started
heading east but ended at Eungalla, west of camp and on top of the range. As
this was my birthday, we all had dinner at the hotel which was very busy, as 40
had already booked before us. It was then back to the entertainment and more
prize draws. The Flemings did not miss out.
Next morning it was off on another trip, but climbing the range
on the bitumen this time with heavy fog on top. As the weather did not know if
it wanted to rain or not, we had a dust free trip through old gold mining areas,
again finishing at the kiosk at Eungalla for an ice cream. It was back to camp
for lunch and many packed and headed home. We all stayed the night and headed
different ways next morning. Thanks again for all who joined us and helped me
celebrate a lovely birthday.
