Pam and I arrived with Errol and Jenny Gordon at Andrew Drynan Park about 1100 on Friday afternoon. Eric and Helga were the first from the Club to arrive and were just finalising the tent set-up to be used for the Cape York trip. There were a few campers already there and spread out on the more scenic spots close to the road so we settled in on the base of the hill. As usual members arrived throughout the afternoon, night, Saturday morning, some for the sausage sizzle on Saturday afternoon and yet more for the Sunday morning breakfast. The following were in attendance:
On Saturday there were a few trips up to the lookout to catch the early morning trains negotiating the loop. A few roamed the local area picking up supplies and the local paper and others were again practising setting up for the upcoming Cape York trip. A special thanks to Brian McKenzie for bringing Richard and Esme Rowles to the afternoon festivities. I recall very well the telephone conversation I had with Richard as the introductory voice for our Club introduction and later to deal with Esme for copies of the Club end of year finances for inclusion in the Club magazine. Good to see them enjoy the afternoon and trust you will enjoy your retirement. And credit again to Brian for driving the Rowles home and joining us again later in the evening. Much appreciated. The communal dinner was well attended, regal table settings (Greg even polished the silver), self catered with some really fine cuisine and a truly wonderful birthday cake and the usual celebrations. There were a few sentimental speeches and reminisces of past years and reasons as to why we all continue to participate in the Club. Two campfires and a glass or two kept most of us warm for the remainder of the evening festivities. The Club supplied breakfast on Sunday morning and it was certainly up to previous standards. There were lots of volunteers, plenty of eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, toast, coffee and good company. Following breakfast there was again an excellent display of camaraderie with the cleanup and pack up of the Club equipment and communal tarp made easy with the many hands. Most left by early afternoon and I was certainly envious of those that stayed for another night. Won’t be like that for us next year! Thank you Don, Margaret, Eric and Helga for a organising a great social week-end and memorable 21st Birthday celebrations. We enjoyed catching up with old friends, meeting some of the new members and just being there in good company. Looking forward to next year! Lou and Pam Wolf
