Mad Dogs and
4WD enthusiasts go out in the Midday Sun??
I wouldn’t say we were all bright eyed and bushy tailed but we
did all make it there for the 7 am start or at least we would have it the road
works hadn’t held us up. Once we all got ourselves organised and had a few
practice hits and putts the morning started off with 18 players broken down into
6 teams of 3 – Ambrose Team. Ambrose for those who don’t know is when you have
three players who each hit off from the tee and you take the best drive of the
three that stays on the fairway, you continue this through the entire game. It
is a lot faster game and you end up with a team average rather than an
individual. It’s a lot of fun and when recorded correctly it is amazing how
everyone evens out. Unfortunately Judy couldn’t play due to a leg injury, but
she made up for it in keeping us all posted on how everyone was going by driving
around the course in a buggy and keeping our spirits high considering the
temperature we were playing in and it was before midday.
I think everyone would agree that it was a great day had by all,
even though we were in groups we were still able to interact with each other on
the course as we played our way through the 18 hole course. The wildlife around
the course was wonderful. On the second hole the Lizard Dragons were on a
feeding frenzy with the bugs, ducks were ducking from the balls being sliced
into the pond by the men. Apparently there was a turtle or two and the
Kangaroos were endless and you could certainly tell it was spring; Joey’s
everywhere. They’re so cute when they are little.
After the 9th hole, I think everyone decided to stop
for a short break to have a bite to eat and even though it was 10 am have a XXXX
with a meat pie. Then it was the back 9 that was tough. There were holes that
seem to go on forever, but I think that was because we were all getting tired.
The animal life was not the only thing that surprised us, the fact that the golf
course meandered through the houses of Gailes; there are not too many golf
courses that actually have a street of houses separating the greens. The day
ended about 12.30 pm with lunch held upstairs and a few well-deserved coldies.
The results were tallied and ended up with the -
-
BEST NETT and overall winners - Doherty/Cox
team winning the day (nett score of 72), which totally surprised us.
-
BEST NETT – Runner Up - G1, G2 and Ken
Winders (nett score of 73)
-
BEST LADIES – Ann Thatcher, Karen Capps and
Bev O’Hara (nett score 75)
The individual
winners went to:
-
Nearest to the Pin Hole 3 ALL – Ken Capps
-
Nearest to the Pin Hole 6 ALL – Ken Winders
-
Nearest to the Pin Hole 12 ALL – Greg Conlon
-
Long Drive MEN Hole 9 – Pete Chant
-
Long Drive LADIES Hole 9 – Ann Thatcher
Congratulations
to everyone for a wonderful effort and a great day. Thank you Judy and Harvey,
I know Stephen, Victor and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will be putting
our name down next year. I hope many others members will do the same.
