Leaders - Dave and Loretta Young Followers - Peter and Elaine Warren, Dick and Margaret Stoppelbein, Ross Hall and Tony and Lorrel Roberts. Because we were meeting at Toowoomba Information Centre at 8.30 on Saturday morning and Tony and I have now joined the grey nomads we decided it was too early for us so chose to leave home at 1.30 Friday afternoon and stay at Toowoomba over night. We all left Toowoomba 8.55 the following morning for our mystery destination. Went out on the Dalby road and turned off towards Kingsthorpe/Goombungee. Drove through Kingsthorpe then travelled through farm land. It looked like they had had some rain with green grass and plenty of yellow and purple wild flowers out in bloom along the edge of the road, came across a hill with plenty of cactus, we named it ‘Cactus Hill’. To keep the followers entertained we were asked a few questions over the UHF along the way. First question:
We stopped at Goombungee, checked out the war digger memorial and had a walk around the township, it had a quaint old country pub. On the road again we turned left to Oakey/Cooyar. Turned left towards Oakey then turned right to Acland and passed through the township. Then turned left towards Jondaryan, turned right to Quinalow, then drove through that township also. Then right to Peranga, we drove through Kaimkillenbun then arrived at Dalby for morning tea at 11.00am. We left Dalby at 12.15 and turned off towards Jandowae and Mundubbera and passed through Jimbour. There was lots of guessing going on as to where we were going with a promise that whoever guessed our destination Dave would shout that person their first drink. Passed through Proston, Hivesville on the way we saw three snakes, one hare crossing the road SLOWLY and one turtle crossing the road VERY VERY SLOWLY, they were not travelling together. We turned left towards Murgon which we passed through then Goomeri and Woolooga. We walked over then drove over the historic Kickabram Bridge which both trains and vehicles travel across. Ross won the shout from Dave. We stayed at the Theebine Hotel just across the road from the railway line. The pub had a band playing out the back for entertainment for the night, the only problem with that was we were camped at the back of the pub as well so it was VERY VERY NOISY till about 2.30 in the morning. We left the pub after breakfast, I think we were all still half asleep. We turned right towards Miva/Woolooga, then right towards Kilkivan, drove through Kilkivan and stopped at Goomeri for morning tea. Left Goomeri 11.00 am, turned left towards Nanango and drove through the township. Question time again:
We stopped for lunch at Benarkin State Forest picnic area. When we left we went through Moore, then Esk, turned right towards Gatton/Toowoomba. We then all headed for home in different directions. We would like to thank Dave and Loretta for a great mystery weekend which was really enjoyed by all their followers. Tony and Lorrel Roberts
