GOLDEN CIRCLE CANNERY BREAKFAST TRIP
11 November
Participants:
Dave and Loretta Young (Trip Leaders), Ron and Jan Barham, Bernie and Judy Cox,
Glenn Cottrell and Lyn Conroy, Mike and Lesley McBurney, Nearing, Eric and Helga
Newmann, Tony and Lisa Richardson, Tony and Naomi Ritchie, Dick and Margaret
Stoppelbein, Don and Margaret Williamson, Barry and Claire Willis,
At first it
began to look like the last trip to this destination - cold, wet and windy.
But
Due to the later season it was only cool, damp and breezy. We assembled outside
the brekky area chatting for a few minutes, then someone discovered the doors
were not locked, only closed, so we ambled in. We commandeered some tables with
signs reading : RESERVED DO NOT SIT HERE. No one moved us on, so we guessed
they were reserved for us.
For $14.95
per head we had a choice of five fruit juices, hot food such as bacon, eggs,
sausages, lambs fry and vegetables. Cereals, fruit pieces, milk, custard,
yoghurt, tea and coffee kept us busy between tables and servery. A continuous
conveyor toaster was kept busy with a selection of breads, including inch thick
raisin bread, which made the yummiest toast – that is if you like that sort of
thing. If you couldn’t find something to your liking, here, you are pretty hard
to please.
Two
birthdays were celebrated while we were dining. No cakes appeared, which is
probably a good thing considering the goodies already on hand.
After
we had had our fill, we investigated the shop on the other side of the indoor
pond. Here we found lots of Golden Circle products for sale at reasonable
prices. Among the tins of fruit and vegies were bare cans, identified with
“P” for pineapple or “B” for beetroot written with felt pen on the top of the
lid. However, lots of them had nothing except the automatic date stamping,
which tells nothing of the contents. Good luck when you get them home. Of
course some of them may have been picked up and put down on the adjacent stack
by mistake…very interesting.
We made our
way home at our leisure after we had bought enough goodies.
No vehicles
(or diffs) were lost or damaged during the running of this trip.
Thanks to
Dave and Loretta for a fun morning.
Dick and Margaret Stoppelbein.
