Berrburrum Trip - March '08Check out the great action shots taken by Iain Funnell TRIP LEADERS: Richard Murphy & Tony Richardson Richard Murphy
Nissan Patrol (White) BP Caboolture, 8am was the meeting point and start time for what would turn out to be a most enjoyable day in the sun, bush and MUD!!!!. After a quick Coffee and the tradional Macca’s for breaky, we headed for the Steve Irwin Way turn off for Trip Leaders, Richard Murphy & Tony Richardson to give the brief on the days events, tyres were let down and we were introduced a couple of tag along’s Ben & Ian in the Hilux Ute; Josh & Ami in the Toyota Land Cruiser Shorty who were colleagues of Tony Richardson. We finally hit the tracks by 9am and immediately hit MUD!!!!!!!!!!! What else would you expect at the Glass House Mountains, there is always MUD!!!!!!!! even when it is in drought. But this was just a torment for what was yet to come and believe me the “RICHY” boys had left the best till last. They threatened us all through the trip that this was nothing what we were experiencing; wait till later in the day????? To be adventurous, Tail End Charlie – Craig Robson decided to take his Jackaroo through some difficult MUD early in the day. Unfortunately for him he had to be snatched out by yours truly (I have never had to snatch anyone out in the short time I have been four wheel driving and yet this is the 2nd time in a month????) Compared to last year, the tracks were a lot more challenging, still a lot of dust, but MUD!!!! And water, typical Glass House Mountains & Beerburrum???? As we were running well on time due to the co-ordination and the ability of our trip leaders, the Glass House Mountains lookout was the venue for morning tea. The view and the weather were spectacular which allowed for many photo opportunities. During the trip the “Richy” boys had mentioned that they expected the trip to finish around 2-2.30, which would allow us to get home and wash our toys, I knew from previous experience that this was going to get dirty, thankfully all participants were well equipped to snatch the bogged vehicles out. There were a couple of side tracks which our new found friends and Richard decide to go for a wander, however I do believe that a couple of them came out the worse for wear, but nothing a little TLC couldn’t fix. I do know however, that we have managed to convince a young lady on just how much fun Four Wheel Driving can be, we just have to convert her Barina into a 4WD so she can do it???? At this point it was decided it was lunchtime, so surrounded by Caboolture 4WD Club and numerous trail bikes we ate our lunch and dust. We all love our 4WD’s they are our pride and joy, especially when they are our new toys, well you can imagine how Peter Warren felt when he decided to follow Richard into the “MUD” hole and got well and truly, remember Pete, drive it like it’s stolen!!!! I certainly wasn’t going to take my new baby in there; I saw what happened to the Land Rover Club last year in the same MUD hole. Our newfound friends decided to give it a go and did very well (I decided to hitch a ride in the Hilux, it was a lot of fun). Well after cleaning ourselves up, we decided it was time to head off home about 2.30, it was a great day, lot of dust, MUD, fun, MUD, bush, MUD, water, and MUD!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to both Richard and Tony for a great day, considering they only they only accepted the role of trip leaders a short time before, they did very well. Thank you Stephen for taking all the photos, you did a great job. Thanks to the other drivers on the trip, it was a lot of fun and I am sure we are still be getting MUD!!!!!!!!!!! out of our cars for weeks to come. Hopefully Ben, Iain and Josh will be come members of the club. Cheers Debbie Doherty
