All participants met up at Dayboro for what was to be a great day out 4WDing. It was not long till we hit the forest and the challenges for the day.

Due to the recent rain that lead up to the trip, the tracks were just a little wet under foot. It was advised to select low range and go straight through the muddy slippery section on the track. With Ross through with no problems, it was then up to the rest of the group to get through.  Most people had no problems with the obstacles.

Two members came to a bit of grief, having problems with the loss of a front number plate and another with some rear bumper damage. We continued along some of the steep sections going up and down the hills in the forest.

Soon after, it was time for morning tea, where the topic of discussion was how much erosion had occurred on one of the harder tracks, resulting in the track being closed.  Conversations continued and it was not long before we met up with some other vehicles in the forest, which were speeding and had no track etiquette.  Refer to Gill Lunn for more details.

As we mosied along the track enjoying the great scenery through the forest it was then on to another steep decent, to which no one had any problems.

After breaking for lunch at the Gantry day use area, we continued along the tracks to one of the rocky hill climbs.  During which it was mentioned by one of the females on the trip, “Lucky I wore my industrial strength bra”.  It was a very bumpy, rocky path.

With more woo boys and water/mud conquered, it was then on to the look out from which we could see Somerset Dam and great views of the Brisbane valley.

With the trip was drawing to an end we all continued back to the day use area for a final refreshment stop.  Then it was back down to Dayboro for an ice cream stop at the famous bakery, where treats such as ice creams, cakes, pies and other goodies were on the menu.  All in all a great ‘dirty’ day was had by all.

I would like thank Ross Hall for a great trip and the great company of all members on the trip.

I encourage all members to go out and enjoy what our state forests have to offer for 4WDing for new and old members.

Steve Baldwin
