Christmas in July - Bigriggen Park July 5/6 '08Trip Leader: Debbie Doherty Participants:
I’m biased this is one of my most favourite camping spots in South East Queensland. Any excuse or opportunity to be there and l’m in. A few arrived Friday afternoon and were quite settled beside the campfire when l arrived after dark, the camp fire was a welcoming sight. The next morning saw a few more arrivals and once settled we set off for the Condamine Gorge, it was a quite overcast with some misty rain at times but there were more patches of blue as the day went along. The drive through the gorge and river crossings was a slow but steady trip; care was taken through the slippery conditions. Andrew H’s car had a few minor hiccups but it gave us an opportunity to have a cuppa break along the way. We had an escort for some of the way, an erratic runaway cow caused a few concerns as it raced along side us/in front of us and beside us for some of the drive. The little tacker chasing along behind him would have been quite fit after the amount of running he did. A bit of a comfort stop at Killarney saw the weather fine up a little more and then we were off to Queen Mary Falls. A lunch break and a leisurely walk to the falls completed that part of the journey and then we headed for camp. The afternoon back at camp comprised of happy hour as usual and the preparations for our Christmas meal. With the festivities already started, the banter was flying thick and fast, the drinks flowed and meals were consumed with smacking lips. Lots of Christmas cheer to go around and fun was had by all. A leisurely scenic drive was in order the next morning to Kooroomba Vineyard and Lavender Farm, was a little more blue sky to be seen than the previous day and made for a relaxing drive to our morning tea destination. Many photo opportunities were taken throughout the drive, the views were spectacular. Lavender scones were on offer but I’m unsure who was brave enough to sample them. The aroma of lavender permeated the air. Was a lovely finale to a great weekend. Another leisurely drive home to camp, were most of us started our pack ups for the drive home. Was a wonderful weekend with great company in a relaxing environment, biggest thanks to Debbie for organising it all. I look forward to next years. Lisa Nehring Back to Top
