Using Stale Bread
Campers often face the problem of what to do with stale bread. Mostly it's fed to the
birds and animals (if not prohibited by camp ground rules) or it's tossed in the rubbish
bin.
Here's a tasty way of using up that stale bread which also makes a great camp dessert
if served with cream or custard.
Ingredients
- Slices of stale bread (3/4 days old)
- Your favourite jam
- Milk
- Egg
Sandwich the bread with the jam and cut into fingers. Dip the fingers in milk and allow
to stand for around 15 minutes. Then dip the fingers in beaten egg and fry in hot butter
until golden brown. Serve hot and sprinkle with cinnamon or icing sugar if desired.
