Sundown National Park Camping Trip Anzac day long weekend

Be prepared for a full off-road camping trip

Spending almost all our time in Sundown National Park we will be camping at Burrows Waterhole for the duration

We will meet off the highway on Friday morning south of Stanthorpe and drive to the waterhole to set up camp exploring mining sights along the way. On Saturday we will be crossing the Severn river multiple times and making our way to Rats Castle and explore the southern end of the park. Making our way back to camp we'll explore some of the remote tracks and creek runs. On Sunday its pack up camp and make our way back to the highway via the waterfall view and head back to Brisvegas

Sundown is beautiful this time of year and can have dry or wet tracks. The terrain is tough on tyres as it's nearly all broken rock. 

It can get cold there so good preparation is beneficial 

You'll need to be self sufficient for food and water 

There is a toilet but no water 

We will top up fuel before going in and that should be ok for the whole time inside the park. The distances aren't far and the terrain demands a slow pace

Suitable for lifted cars with all terrain tyres

Sundown has a history of gold tin and cyanide mining. There are wild dear roaming the park that can be seen often as well as the normal Australian wildlife. With challenging tracks, big skies, clear running water and a stunning high altitude landscape it's a trip to remember 

This trip is NOT suitable for caravans but is possible with off road campers or some hybrids. It will be challenging to tow in the conditions. I'll be tent camping. It would definitely suit your touring rig if thats what you have set up
