Winter on Straddie - Trip leader Graham and Jan Corbett - Beach driving and camping
Winter Camping on Straddie
Flinders Beach Campsite, North Stradbroke Island
Limit: 15 Vehicles
Stradbroke Ferries (Sealink) have the same caravan special as last year. It is half price for car and caravan/camper. You can travel over from Cleveland, Saturday to Wednesday from 11:00am to 2:00pm and back from Dunwich on Tuesday to Saturday 9:00am to 12:00 noon. Public and School holidays are excluded.
We will camp at Flinders Beach where there are toilets. Showers are available at Adder Rock Campground (cost involved), tide permitting. Water is available from several fill points on the island, so you need to be able to cart it if required. There is a dump point at one of the toilet blocks at Flinders.
You can come over and leave whenever you want as long as you travel during the above times to get the discount. Further information is available on the Stradbroke Ferries website - https://www.sealink.com.au/.
Please organise your own ferry booking, camping fees and beach driving permit.
We will be mainly relaxing but travelling on some of the local tracks, swimming for the keen, fishing and beach driving. It may be cold so please bring timber for campfires. We will visit most of the scenic points on the island and eat out on occasions. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on lead.
The trip leader has booked the ferry from Cleveland on Tuesday 19 August at 12 noon and returning from Dunwich on Saturday 30 August at 10:30am. The caravan special
can be booked online using the discount code of ESCAPE50. The approx cost for a 5.4m vehicle and 8.5m caravan and 3 people is $334. I have booked on the Sea Breeze which has limited caravan spaces, the next ferry, the Minjerribah, runs about an hour later and will have a lot more caravan spaces.
The barge option times are:
Cleveland to Dunwich on 19 August 12:00 (SB), 1:00pm (M), 2:00pm (SB)
Dunwich to Cleveland on 30 August 9:00am (M), 10:30am (SB), 11:30am (M)
SB is the Sea Breeze with limited caravan spaces. M is the Minjerribah with a lot more caravan space.
Minjerribah camping does not have any discount camping for longer stays so you can book online. We will be staying in Area I on Flinders Beach but if that fills up then nominate Area J. Don’t forget to get your 1-month beach driving permit ($57.80) while booking your camping. When I booked there were the maximum of 30 spaces available in Area I, same for Area J.

If you intend staying for different periods that is fine but please make sure that tides are suitable for your arrival and departure. Give Graham a call to discuss.
