Winter on Straddie - TL Jim Basedow

Stradbroke Ferries (Sealink) have a caravan special similar to last year. It is half price for car and caravan/camper. You can travel over from Cleveland, Saturday to Thursday after 10am and Friday after 2.00pm and back from Dunwich on Monday to Saturday before 10.00am or after 2.30pm and Sunday
before 10.00am.
 
We will camp at Flinders Beach where there are toilets. Showers are available at Adder Rock Campground (cost involved), tide permitting. Water is available from several fill points on the island, so you need to be able to cart it if required. There is a dump point at one of the toilet blocks at Flinders.

You can come over and leave whenever you want as long as you travel during the above times to get the discount. Further information is available on the Stradbroke Ferries website -  https://www.sealink.com.au/ .

Please organise your own ferry booking, camping fees and beach driving permit.

We will be mainly relaxing but travelling on some of the local tracks, swimming for the keen, fishing and
beach driving. It may be cold (and there may be rain showers) so please bring timber for the ‘cooking’
campfires.

We will visit most of the scenic points on the island and eat out on occasions.
The Stradbroke Island International Finska Championships will be held playing for the Bayley Memorial
Trophy.

Dogs are allowed but must be kept on lead.
The trip leader will be booking the ferry from Cleveland on Thursday 13 August at 10.30am and
returning from Dunwich on Friday 21 August at 3.00pm. The caravan special
can be booked online using the discount code of ESCAPE50. The approx cost for a 5.4m vehicle and
5.5m camper trailer and 2 people is $260. 

Minjerribah camping does not have any discount camping for longer stays so you can book online. We will be staying in Area I on Flinders Beach but if that fills up
then nominate Area J. Don’t forget to get your 1-month beach driving permit ($57.80) while booking your camping. When I booked there were the maximum of 30 spaces available in Area I, same for Area J.

If you intend staying for different periods that is fine but please make sure that tides are suitable for your
