Campfire Cook-Off Weekend

Date: Friday 2nd September – Sunday 4th September

Location: Allawah Scout Camp

Join us for a relaxed and social weekend at Allawah Scout Camp, centred around good food, great company, and a bit of friendly competition. The highlight of the weekend will be a campfire cook-off, where participants can showcase their camp cooking skills and creativity. Whether you're a seasoned camp oven chef or just keen to give it a go, this event is all about having fun and sharing ideas.

 

Itinerary:
Friday:

  • Arrival from 10am onwards
  • Set up camp
  • Option for afternoon tour through Castle Hill Blackstone
  • Happy Hour 4:30PM
  • Casual night around the fire

Saturday:

  • Free time in the morning (exploring the Brisbane River, relaxing, prep for cook-off)
  • Option to head to General Public Ipswich at 10AM for bowling, pool, digital darts, shuffle board and arcade games - https://www.generalpublic.com.au/ipswich
  • Campfire Cook-Off cooking from 3pm(ish)
  • Games & fun competitions
  • Happy Hour 4:30PM
  • Campfire Cook-off tasting and judging
  • Pot-Luck Dinner (around 7pm)
  • Campfire social night

Sunday:

  • Option to head to Marburg for coffee and antiques from 9am
  • Feel free to stay Sunday night as well.

What to Bring:

  • Camping gear (tent, swag, camper, etc.)
  • Food and drinks for the weekend
  • Camp oven (if entering the cook-off, please advise asap if you would like to borrow a camp oven - limited availability)
  • Firewood (not essential but appreciated)
  • Any specialty ingredients or utensils for your cook-off dish.

 

Cook-Off Details:

  • Categories: (all must be cooked over fire or coals)
    • Traditional Roast
    • Other Mains (stews, casseroles etc.)
    • Dampers, Breads and Desserts
  • Judging based on taste, presentation, and creativity
  • Prize/bragging rights for the winner of each category
  • Sharing portions is encouraged so everyone can enjoy the shared dinner.

 

Pot-Luck Dinner

There will be a pot-luck dinner on Saturday Night. If you are participating in the cook-off, your competition entry could be your contribution to the dinner; you're welcome to contribute something different also. If you aren't participating in the Cook-Off, please bring a main or dessert meal to share (happy hour roster to be seperate). 

 

Costs

Camping Fees: $12 per person, per night.

No additional fees for power or water – Please be aware that this is limited and is strictly first in best dressed for arrivals. 

 

Note:

This is a family-friendly event. However, there will be a large fire area with hot coals on the ground for cooking. Please ensure all care is taken when near this area with children to avoid burns.

As we are guests at a Scout Camp, in proximity to residential neighbours, all members are expected to be on their best behaviour. Any unruly or disruptive behaviour may result in you being asked to leave by the caretaker.
